The 2020 Bathurst 1000 is happening this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the most prestigious race is scheduled to take place between October 15-18.
The event is progressing well since they have already released the full field for this year’s race held at the same place since 1963 – Mount Panorama Circuit, Bathurst, Australia. However, they are a few questions and changes in the Garry Rogers Motorsport, wildcard entry list.
Nathan Herne is yet to be granted his Superlicence exemption by Motorsport Australia hence leaving him and Tyler Everingham’s spot in doubt. The good news is that GRM is expected to file for an appeal to the Motorsport Australia’s decision, but if they are unsuccessful, then Herne won’t compete at all.
Also, there are just four pairings that are the same as last year from the 24 regular entries.
- Jamie Whincup/Craig Lowndes (Triple Eight Holden)
- Shane van Gisbergen/Garth Tander (Triple Eight Holden)
- Rick Kelly/Dale Wood (Kelly Mustang)
- Fabian Coulthard/Tony D’Alberto (Penske Ford)
Other reunions in the 2020 entry list include:
- Macauley Jones/Tim Blanchard (10th in 2016)
- Lee Holdsworth/Michael Caruso (DNF in 2008 and 3rd in 2009)
News coming in is that reigning winner Alex Premat will miss the race, and he was to join the Tickford Racing team. But he has since been replaced with DJR Team Penske driver, Tim Slade. after the coronavirus pandemic left him stranded in the US following set travel restrictions. The last time a reigning winner was not included in the entry list was Paul Morris in 2015.
